"A Home of our Own" is a film that shows the struggle of a poor woman with six children who has had it with her life in Los Angeles. When she loses her menial job, she decides to pack it and move on. We saw this film when it first came out, but watched it again when it showed on cable the other night. The film was directed by Tony Bill. “A House of My Own tells the story of the award-winning Mexican-American novelist, poet, short story writer and essayist’s quest for her dream house, in a book as beautifully appointed as her legendary ‘purple’ home in San Antonio, with lustrous pages, color photographs and colorful chapter headings that lend it the look and feel of an objet d’art These ‘stories from my life.

The Author to Her Book Summary. An author writes a book, but is convinced it’s garbage. Her friends feel differently, so they steal it and get it published. This irritates said author, who then decides that she’ll try to fix up the poems in the book since it’s gonna be published anyway. "A Home of Our Own" is a sentimental and fairly unlikely story about a widow who packs her kids into a jalopy and takes John Prine's advice: "Blow up your TV, throw away your papers, head for the country, and build you a home." (The TV blows up more or less by itself.) The widow (Kathy Bates) is a proud woman who believes in paying her own way, and refuses any form of charity.

A Home of Her Own audiobook, by Brenda Novak When Lucky Caldwell was ten, her mother, Red—the best-known hooker in Dundee, Idaho—married Morris Caldwell, a wealthy and much older man. It didn’t last, of course, but Morris’ kindness was the highlight of Lucky’s Hill, Morris’ grandson, doesn’t feel too well-disposed toward Red or her.
